Youth Director Job
GENERAL: Part-time position with responsibilities and tasks for youth group programs. Goals are ministering to the youth of the church and community in grades 4 through 12. A part-time salaried position based on approximately 10-15 hours per week. Time required includes Sunday mornings, some evenings and some weekday office hours if needed. The position is responsible to the Pastor and is overseen by SPRC. FBI finger printing, Act 33 and 34 clearances are required. Must adhere to Safe Sanctuary Policy. Complete CPR training.
RESPONSBILITIES AS DIRECTOR OF YOUTH MINISTRIES WITH PRIMARY GOAL:
To develop and implement ministries designed to promote and strengthen the spiritual growth of the youth of our congregation in Jesus Christ (grades 4 thought 12) through comfortable, stimulating, and guided youth interactions with their peers and adult leaders. Emphasis is placed on working with volunteers and various student leaders to ensure that TUMC builds dynamic ministries that will reach and disciple youth. Activities can include, but are not limited to confirmation class, weekly fellowship events, monthly events, planned special yearly events such as work camps, mission trips, retreats, youth rallies, recreational activities, fundraisers, short and long term Bible studies.
TO ACCOMPLISH THE PRIMARY GOAL, THE FOLLOWING ARE REQUIRED:
1) Develop a vision and yearly goals for the Trinity Youth Program incorporating a strong commitment to Christian faith and the theology of the United Methodist Church.
2) Chair the Trinity Youth Council as outlined in the Book of Discipline, Paragraph 256.3; be familiar with and be responsible to see that those provisions are implemented.
3) Involve and work with interested adults and parents as well as youth in planning and responsibilities of implementing programs.
4) Lead Confirmation classes and activities with counseling from Pastor; submit lesson plans to the Pastor.
5) To develop a personal relationship with Trinity youth; implement strategies for increasing the number of youth participating in youth programs; have a follow-up plan for those youth who become inactive.
6) Oversee the participation of Trinity youth in service projects including the Appalachia Service Project; assisting youth in the planning and funding of the yearly team.
7) Encourage and support involvement of Trinity youth in District and Conference youth programs.
8) Work in cooperation and consultation with the Education Committee and Trinity Weekday School Board on a regular basis. Attend Sunday worship and quarterly Council Meetings.
9) Include a youth update and upcoming calendar events in the weekly church bulletin and monthly church newsletter and ensure that youth events are posted in local newspapers and other appropriate communication mediums (email, Facebook, etc).
10) Advocate youth to serve on committees as require by the Discipline and provide suggestions for youth who might serve.
11) Participate in continuing education at least once a year, as approved by the SPRC to increase related skills; share and implement whenever possible techniques or knowledge gained in appropriate areas in youth ministry at Trinity; provide feedback about education experiences to SPRC and in church newsletters.
12) Oversee the Youth Fund with the commitment of one parent and one youth to make decisions.
13) Be open to suggestions of Pastor and SPRC of improving or introducing new youth programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1) Experience working with youth and youth families in a ministry setting preferred.
2) Articulate a strong call to serve youth and a biblical foundation of discipleship.
3) Familiarity with Wesleyan/United Methodist theology preferred.
COMPENSATION:
$20 – $25 per hour based upon education and experience.
