Proverbs Daily Devotional: Day 13
“Good understanding wins favor, but the way of the unfaithful is hard.”
Proverbs 13:15
I recently saw the following words on Facebook, and they share a similar truth:
“Marriage is hard. Divorce is hard. Choose your hard.
Obesity is hard. Being fit is hard. Choose your hard.
Being in debt is hard. Being financially disciplined is hard. Choose your hard.
Communication is hard. Not communicating is hard. Choose your hard.
Life will never be easy. It will always be hard. But we can choose our hard. Pick wisely.”
Have you ever known anyone who always seems to take the harder path? I’ve been in situations with people before, and have had either said out loud or simply thought in my head, “There’s an easy way to deal with this, and there’s a hard way to deal with this. And I’m afraid this person is going to choose the hard way.” And sadly, off they go. But the truth is, both ways are often hard. Sometimes the easy way doesn’t seem hard at the beginning, but the destination is decidedly more difficult down the road. Other times the hard way doesn’t seem easy at the beginning, but the destination is pleasantly more peaceful at the end of the path. The writers of Proverbs often describe two paths: the way of the righteous or the way of the wicked; the way of the godly or the way of the mocker; the way of the wise or the way of the fool, etc. Both are hard. Choose your hard.
