Proverbs Daily Devotional: Day 3
“By wisdom the LORD laid the earth’s foundations, by understanding he set the heavens in place; by his knowledge the deeps were divided, and the clouds let drop the dew.”
Proverbs 3:19-20
Much of my childhood free time was spent at my grandparent’s red brick home in Rocky Grove, PA. My grandpa built this home with his own head, hands and heart. Literally.
Though he never went to college, he was a jack of all trades, and master of many of them. He designed the home, drafting up the blueprints with the precision of an architect. He was an electrician, so he not only mapped out the electrical components and wiring of the home, he also put them all in place. He was a plumber, and not only planned out the piping and the plumbing, but but them in place as well. He was a carpenter, a bricklayer, a welder, and a roofer. He had some help in the building of the home, but he was the project manager and the primary builder. He envisioned it in his mind, put the plans on paper, and then built it with his hands. His family home, where he lived with his wife, my grandma, and where he raised his twin boys, my father and my uncle. A home built with his own head, hands, and heart. Planned with precision and built to perfection. He lived in that house until the day he died.
What amazes me about this true story are the many components that had to come together in order to design and build this one home. Imagine the planning and precision that went into God creating the world! Here in Proverbs we see these few verses that allude to God’s planning and precision in creating our world. Faith isn’t opposed to science – God created science! God created the scientific laws that hold this world together, and faith and science blend together to help us understand the beautiful complexity of God’s creation.
Where do you see the beauty and precision of God’s design in the world today?
